SOC 1004: Introductory Sociology

This course explores the principles and basic concepts of human interaction and social organization. Students will engage with the basic theories and research methods of the field to discuss socialization, deviance, social institutions, population dynamics, social change, and social inequality by class, race/ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation.

Why take it?

Students will leave this course with the ability to think critically and systematically about human societies, and with knowledge of how cultural, structural, and historical conditions influence people’s experiences. Students can apply the knowledge gained from this course to other courses and disciplines, as well as to all aspects of their professional and personal lives.

SOC 1004 fulfills an elective in the Visual Arts and Society Pathways minor.
