ENGL 1664: Introduction to Women's Literature

This course provides an introduction to literature written by women, primarily in English. Students will explore literary and cultural questions raised in women’s writing throughout history, discussing works by authors from different social and cultural backgrounds. This course focuses both on women’s issues as they are treated in women’s literature, and on women’s literature as discrete and different from literature written by men.

Why take it?

This course will benefit non-majors with an interest in enhancing their critical reading skills and broadening their literary experiences. Furthermore, the topics discussed throughout the course, including questions about gender equity in marriage, education, the labor force, and health, are relevant to students of all genders, as they will likely confront some of these issues in their own lives.
