LDRS 1414: Citizen Leadership
LDRS 1414 introduces students to the language, theories, concepts, and competencies associated with practicing effective leadership and affecting social change. The course combines an exploration of leadership concepts and theories across time with an examination of the Social Change Model of Leadership Development.
Why take it?
According to national surveys, most Americans believe leaders in the United States are ineffective (Shollen and Gagnon, 2019). In our rapidly changing world, we need leaders with interdisciplinary skills to solve complex societal issues on local, national, and international levels.
This course will benefit students from all majors, especially those who seek to learn more about who they are as leaders, how they can effectively learn from and work with others, and how they can contribute to their communities. Students will leave this course with leadership knowledge and skills that are applicable to any field, and that will prepare them to lead and follow in our fast-paced, complex 21st-century world.
LDRS 1414 is a foundational course in the Leadership and Social Change Pathways minor and fulfills an elective in the Event and Experience Management Pathways minor.
Requirements
There are no prerequisites for this course.
This course fulfills Pathways requirements in Reasoning in the Social Sciences and Intercultural and Global Awareness.
