BIOL 1034: Biology of Sex

This course will be an integrated review of the subject of sex (both the noun and the verb) from a scientific viewpoint and yet meant for both science and non-science majors. We will cover all aspects of sex, from genes to behavior and evolution, but from a very objective and scientific perspective. The goal is to use a topic of general interest to introduce students to the basic tenets of science, how it is performed, how to evaluate it, and how it interacts with society. 

Why take it?

This course will provide a broad and diverse understanding of sex and address contemporary human societal issues and questions from a scientific perspective. Many current social and political issues relate to issues of sex, from evolution education to gender identity. By understanding the scientific foundations of these issues, students will be better equipped to navigate our diverse society and engage in informed civic discourse.
